Opening Ceremony of the World University Championship Futsal was marked by animation and multiculturalism

This sunday, July 17th, the Opening Ceremony of the World University Championship Futsal, took place around 6:30 pm, in the city of Braga.

The event, that had as its starting point the Arco da Porta Nova and as its arrival point the Praça da República, featured the presentation of the various teams and delegations from the different countries present. Responsible for the animation music was the percussion group from the University of Minho, Bomboemia.

It was in Praça da República that the thirteen teams, with the players and the technical team, took the stage. In this place, there was also the presence of several responsible for the organization of the entire event.

Duarte Lopes, President of the Organising Committee of the World University Championship Futsal, affirms that “we are gathered here today for a reason and a reason only. That reason is the love for the sport” and wished everyone “an amazing time, amazing matches” and hoped that everyone “makes friends and great memories” during the competition.

Ricardo Rio, Mayor of Braga, guaranteed that the city “will promote a great activity” and hopes that between all the matches everyone still gets to “know our cities very well”.

Luciano Cabral, Acting First Vice-President of International University Sports Federation (FISU) started his speech by declaring that “it is an honour and a pleasure to welcome you to the city of Braga” and telling the athletes that they will “sure get these memories forever”. Luciano Cabral also added that he is very thankful to all the portuguese people and the citizens of Braga and Guimarães.

Rui Vieira de Castro, Rector of the University of Minho, welcomed everyone to the University of Minho, the cities of Braga and Guimarães. Rui Vieira de Castro expressed a “very warm welcome to the delegation of Ukraine”. “Respect, determination, attitude and fair-play are the behaviours everyone hopes to see in the games” and declared officially opened the WUC 2022.

Throughout the Ceremony, the athletes and referees’ oath took place, where fair-play and impartiality were in order.

The first match is scheduled for this Monday, July 18th, at 10:30 am. The women’s teams from Ukraine and Germany will play the game at the Gualtar Sports Complex of the University of Minho.
