This Sunday, 24 July, was marked by the women’s and men’s finals of the 2022 World University Futsal Championship. Portugal and Brazil finished the Championship in the best place.

In a game that started at 4pm and ended only around 6:20pm, the women’s team from Portugal came out victorious and took the gold medal with them. Brazil started practically winning, taking advantage of and converting a Portuguese defensive error in the very first seconds of the match. Portugal managed to equalise not long after, but the Brazilian response was not long in coming. From here until half-time, the Brazilian cavalcade culminated in an impressive 1-5, when it was time to return to the locker room.

In the second half, it was a different story. Portugal came in with the will to improve and managed to reduce it to 2-5. With this goal, the Portuguese team gained a new lease of life. Pulled by a strong support from the stands, the portuguese team managed an epic comeback, consummated with a goal in the last second of the match, driving the Multiusos de Guimarães to madness.

Overtime was divided, and the result remained unchanged until penalties, where only one Brazilian player failed to convert, making Portugal world champion in women’s futsal university for the first time in its history.

The men’s team from Ukraine and Brazil faced each other at the end of the day, in order to end the Championship matches. The winner was Brazil.

Ukraine opened the scoring of the match, but the Brazilian response was not long in coming. The Ukrainians scored again, but Brazil was motivated to respond. The game went to halftime with a draw, but the scoreboard soon changed. Ukraine scored first again in the second half of the game, but received a Brazilian response again. The match ended with a draw, which led to overtime. In extra time, the Brazilian team proved superior and eventually won the match.

The closing ceremony was the last moment of the 2022 WUC Futsal, which included the speeches from Nelson Felgueiras, Vereador of Sports and Youth in Guimarães City Hall, André Reis, President of the Academic Federation of University Sport (FADU) and Luciano Cabral, Acting First Vice-President of International University Sports Federation (FISU).
