FISU Acting President
I am very happy to welcome you to Braga and Guimarães, for the 2022 FISU World University Championship Futsal.
For nearly two years, international university sport was almost not possible. What an extraordinary period we have all been through. FISU’s thoughts are first and foremost with those who have lost loved ones, and with those who have experienced personal suffering. Because of this, the resumption of competitions has been bittersweet.
As societies and economies rebuild, however, we are reminded of the need to prioritise sport and healthy social exchange. FISU firmly believes that university athletes are the role models and future leaders the world needs, now more than ever.
Over the next seven days, you will compete alongside some of the best student athletes in the world. The FISU World University Championships demand skill, athleticism and single-minded determination to do your best. But beyond the competition, FISU urges you all to take full advantage of this moment. May you return home with memories that will last a lifetime and perhaps even some new friends from faraway places.
By taking part in the FISU World University Championship Futsal, you are becoming part of a historic movement that has been growing for more than 70 years. I encourage you to consider how you may best write your own page in this history.
None of FISU’s events would be possible, meanwhile, without the gracious generosity of our hosts. I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the National University Sports Federation of Portugal and the organisers for their dedication. I am confident you will do the same.
FISU is also grateful for the ongoing support of the International Sports Federations. Together, we aim to provide the highest level of technical excellence, both on and off the field of play. We remain convinced that the best student athletes deserve nothing less.
I am confident that the 2022 FISU World University Championship Futsal in Braga and Guimarães will provide you every opportunity to shine, and I wish you the best of luck!
FISU Acting President, Leonz Eder

The University of Minho and the cities of Braga and Guimarães will receive the World Universities Futsal Championships, thus resuming this competition that has not been held since 2018. We’re proud to hold, once again, a major university sports event, that represents a challenge of great prestige and a great responsibility for us.
The Portuguese University Sports Federation (FADU), the University of Minho (UMinho) and the University of Minho Students Union (AAUMinho), received the news of this assignment with great joy and expectation. We are now on the countdown for an event that we want all the participants to remember for a long time. Nevertheless, our mission won’t end in producing a fantastic sports experience. We want to leave a prestigious legacy to the Portuguese University Sports’ ecosystem, to Futsal, to the cities of Braga and Guimarães and, off course, the University of Minho, expecting that the impact of this event to be reflected in this region’s public involvement and that all the athletes, coaches, sports leaders and volunteers can experience unforgettable moments at all levels throughout the week of competition.
We assure you that this organizing committee will be ready to receive the expected hundreds of participants. This will be the fourteenth international university sports event organized by the University of Minho and we always strive to improve. We are also sure that our history and reputation on this sport modality will contribute to improve the level of this competition. Our priority is to make Portugal and the cities of Braga and Guimarães the home of university futsal in 2022.
At last, the OC would like to thank all the sponsors and institutional partners who have joined this event, especially the Municipalities of Braga and Guimarães, the Social Services and Rectory of the University of Minho, the Portuguese Football Federation and the Braga Football Association.
We want to honour the trust that FISU and FADU deposited in our organization and leave a great contribution to the cause of University Sports. This is a prestigious competition that brings together hundreds of young people from many countries in search of a dream and shows that the cities of Braga and Guimarães are united in promoting university sports in all its dimensions.
This is yet another opportunity for Braga and for the entire region to demonstrate our ability to host important sporting events, which has already been demonstrated on several occasions. The Municipality of Braga is strongly committed in making this event a success.
